Vintage toys
-
Japanese model kits - They may not have invented them, but without doubt,
the Japanese perfected the art of the plastic model kit. Along the way they
made kits of just about anything and here are the boxes of a few of my favourites.
(Warning! - lots of pics so takes a while to load)
-
Slot cars - I came along a bit late to experience this hobby in it's full
flow in the 1960's, but a friends father had inherited some Revell track
and cars from a local auto club which my friend and I discovered in his cellar.
Until the advent of GP2 for the PC, slot cars were about the closest
many people could get to taking part in real motorsport and although
disagreements about rules and standards have prevented the hobby from getting
the general recognition it deserves, ultimately slot cars have remained great
fun and some of them are now very collectable.
-
British toys - Forget Bing, Schuco, Marklin et al, it was Britain that produced
many of the best toys in the world in the last century and here I hope I
can remind you of just a few.
-
Jigsaws - It is my opinion, that there is no finer way to pass time than
in the entirely unnecessary act of re-assembling a jigsaw. No other medium
has allowed the work of so many of the worlds most er... interesting artists
to be appreciated by such a wide audience and you can make up your own rules
as to what bits to do first.
